Facilities Security Officers are dedicated team members, providing a vital link between the safety and security of state owned and leased buildings and the government agencies that occupy them within Frankfort, Kentucky.
Often times, Facilities Security Officers are the first line of defense in deterring potential criminal behavior as they secure the entrances to state office buildings.
Skills imperative to a successful Facilities Security Officer include multi-tasking, typing, written and verbal communication, customer service, active listening, stress management, solid judgement and computer literacy.
The Kentucky State Police, recognizing the importance and significance of Facilities Security Officers and public safety, goes to great lengths to provide its Officers receive appropriate training and equipment for ensuring success.
An initial 80
hour training academy, approved by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council, begins within the first month of employment.
A comprehensive Field Training Program begins upon the completion of the SLEO Academy and commissioning process.
During this time new employees are taught the foundation of the KSP Facilities Security; duties and responsibilities, operating camera systems and metal detectors, familiarity of Post assignments, among other skills.
Education:
High School Graduate Must have a valid driver's license Must be 21 years of age prior to being commissioned as a Facilities Security Special Law Enforcement Officer.
Applicants are subject to the agency policy that tattoos or body piercings shall not be visible while in any agency issued uniform.
Special Requirements:
To be employed as a KSP Facilities Security Officer, applicants must be capable of meeting the requirements to receive a Special Law Enforcement Officer (SLEO) commission under KRS 61.
900-930- OR - be previously commissioned as a SLEO in Kentucky.
In Addition, KSP Facilities Security Officers must complete initial firearms training and maintain firearms qualification and their SLEO commission as a condition of employment with the Kentucky State Police.
