Summary:
The Kentucky State University School of Psychology is experiencing rapid enrollment growth and program innovation. We are currently seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our Psychology Department as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2024. The successful candidate will contribute to our academic community through teaching across the psychology curriculum, grant writing and research, and service activities. This position offers an exciting opportunity for the applicant to establish a program of research in their area, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of psychology. Experience in social psychology, psychology and law, forensic psychology, or other related areas is desired, but candidates from other areas of specialization will be considered. Quality Matters certification is preferred.
ESSENTIALJOBFUNCTIONS:
  1. Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in psychology in face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities.
  2. Conduct original research in a specialized area of psychology, leading to scholarly publications and presentations.
  3. Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in their academic and professional development.
  4. Participate in departmental and university service activities, including committee work and academic advising.
  5. Contribute to the ongoing development and assessment of the psychology curriculum.

KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS,ANDABILITIES:
  1. Ph.D. in Psychology, prepared to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
  2. Demonstrated expertise and scholarly activity in a specialized area of psychology.
  3. Strong commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring students; Commitment to teaching in a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) preferred.
  4. Potential to conduct high-quality research and publish in reputable academic journals. Record of successful grant writing, research, and publication preferred.
  5. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive work environment.
  7. Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, research, and service activities.

MINIMUM
Qualifications:

  1. Ph.D. in Psychology from an accredited university.
  2. Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching, grant writing, research, and service.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS: As required by the applicant's area of specialization.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: The successful candidate will supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate research, as well as any research assistants hired to work on grant projects.
WORKINGCONDITIONSANDPHYSICALEFFORT:The Assistant Professor of Psychology position is primarily based on-campus, with occasional opportunities for remote work. The position involves a combination of teaching, research, and service responsibilities, with regular office hours and participation in departmental meetings and events. Occasional travel for conferences and professional development may be required. This position requires the ability to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods. Occasional lifting and carrying of materials may be required during teaching and research activities. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
